Can I Have A Cleaning Service In My Home During Lockdown?

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

During November 2020 we are in a national lockdown for a month until 2nd December and we feel fortunate that our cleaning company is able to continue working in our clients' homes.

It's been a difficult year for everyone and we've seen many changes. More people are working from home and we had a period of lockdown where schools and most workplaces were closed or had to change to suit working during the pandemic.

We still clean and tidy to high standards however we now follow additional guidelines published by Public Health England to keep our clients and ourselves safe.

We are also members of the Domestic Cleaning Alliance (part of the British Cleaning Council) and we can rely on their advice for good working practices too.

Here are the guidelines for your information -

· Work in the home such as cleaning can continue provided the person carrying out the work has no symptoms and that no-one in their household is shielding or self-isolating

· Social distancing of at least 2 metres must be maintained

· Travel to and from this type of work is allowed

· No work should be carried out by any tradesperson who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild

For the safety of both Clients and Cleaners -

· Cleaners must not clean if anyone in their household has symptoms (however mild), shielding or self-isolating

· Clients must not allow cleaning if anyone in their household has symptoms (however mild), shielding or self-isolating

· Clients are advised to stay in a different room to the cleaner where possible. Social distancing of at least 2 metres must be maintained at all times

Social Distancing & Face Coverings -

· Cleaners must at all times observe social distancing of 2 metres from anyone in the property

· Face coverings are not mandatory, however if the client asks their cleaner to wear one, then they will be prepared to do so

Cleaning and safety guidelines for cleaners working in people’s homes -

These are based on the latest guidelines from Public Health England, Health Protection Scotland and the NHS.

· Thoroughly wash or sanitise hands before, during and after visits

· Surfaces to be cleaned using regular products and then where possible, disinfected

· Special attention should be paid to "high touched" areas such as; door and cupboard handles, light switches, TV remotes, tables, countertops etc. Clients are advised to keep these areas disinfected between our visits

· Warm water (not hot or cold) should be used when cleaning surfaces and mopping floors, to maximise the effectiveness of cleaning products

· Use of disposable or machine washable gloves

· Open windows where possible for ventilation during visits

· Washing cleaning cloths and mop covers at a high temperature (60°C or above) after every use

· Avoid shaking dirty laundry and soft furnishings such as bath mats and rugs

If you have any queries about using our cleaning services during lockdown or during the pandemic period do not hesitate to contact us and please find below the government website link for more details on safe working in the home.

Stay safe!
